Week 10 – Artist – Joseph DeLappe & Micol Hebron

Joseph DeLappe uses cardboard, money, and other common media that would typically be thrown away to express what he feels about political issues in his artwork. He did use online gaming platforms to express his feelings which is probably one of the last things I would expect to be used in art. Micol Hebron uses photography, sculptures, and other "normal" media to express her feelings on politically charged gender issues. DeLappe chooses his media from his knowledge learned in both university and his everyday hobbies, while I think Hebron chooses her media based on what I think she thinks would reach a higher audience. For example Hebron drew male nipples and made stickers based off that to spread awareness on nudity in media. I think their work is similar in the sense that they are both politically charged, however, Hebron's work is based on the feminist movement and mostly targeted in the U.S., but does have applications ouside of the U.S., while DeLappe's political

Week 10 – Art Activity – Intermedia

For this project, I decided to draw a cartridge used to run PCR covid tests. The cartridge is actually only supposed to be blue and a clear/white in the middle, but I thought leaving it uncolored wouldn't look nice so I used brown for the clear/white part. The red is the sample added into the cartridge. It enters the cartridge through the little square opening that I drew on the top lower right hand corner. The middle square is supposed to be a QR code.      I thought about using uncooked rice mixed with food coloring, paint, and eyeshadow. I went with eyeshadow for this because I didn't want to spend more money at Target. I think the piece would probably look better if I used paint or pens instead. It probably would have been easier to do too. I think I did well drawing it, it's not super ugly or anything. I feel like if you looked at it you would know its a something meant for a test, maybe a normal person wouldn't know what it's meant for but you know its a c

Week 8 - Artist – Addario-Cardiff-Miller

When I look up Addario works online, her most prominent or known works seems to be photographs of war. She photographs war from both sides as a soldier and as a citizen of the country it's happening in. But it seems like she doesn't only just show the brutal aspects of war, she also shows what civilian life is like during the war and after the war. Her work humanizes the other side and it makes you think about how when we hear about war and other countries, we don't think about the civilians on the other side and how they're fairing.      Cardiff and Miller make multisensory exhibitions that people can walk through. In these exhibitions, visitors experience an exhibition that is described as unsettling. From what I've seen, the exhibitions make it seem like you're entering an empty room with dark lighting. They use audio and lighting to make you feel and experience what they want when you walk through the exhibition. For example, one of them is a desk and ch

Week 8 - Art Activity – Photo Story

My shift starts at 11am today so I woke up at 7am to get ready for work! This is my bathroom at home. I just dyed my hair purple and pink the night before too! All of my scrubs are dirty so I had to do laundry before I leave for work. Time is now around 7:45am! My supervisor called at 8am today. Apparently my shift started at 7am today and no one told me. I just put in the laundry so now I can't get there until 11am anyways..... I arrived at work at 11am! I work on the first floor of the hospital in the microbiology department. Most of my work today was to accept patient samples and check them into the lab for processing. I finished my shift at 7:40pm today. I stayed a little bit late because I felt bad about being 4 hours late. I st. a new record today.... I'm still technically at the hospital in these pictures. It took me 10 minutes to get to my car from the lab so I didn't get to leave until 10:50pm I made it home in these pictures. All of the anxiety caught up to me a

Week 6 - Artist - Camille & Sarah Elgart

Sarah Elgart choreographs dance which is kind of hard to explain. I think she uses ballet/contemporary style dance moves as a way to show imagery, but from a few videos I've seen on Youtube, I'm not quite sure if I understand what she's trying to portray. I watched  Alexandre Features "Ghost Story" by Sarah Elgart ( link ), Grand Performances presents Sarah Elgart (COLA 2021 Feature Presentation) ( link ), and Sarah Elgart ( link ). Her choreographies all seem to have similar dance styles, but they don't have an explanation and she never writes one that I have seen either, so I would assume that her dances, much like other art piecies such as paintings, are made so that the meaning is up to the viewer's perception. Besides dance, I see that she also produced a short film, directed some music videos, and writes in a magazine column about dance and film.      Camille is a singer and an actress. Her music seems to utilize as little instruments as possib

Week 6 - Art Activity - Drawing II

The first three pictures are my campus maps. It's very clear that I know the upper campus better than I know the lower campus. For the upper campus, I placed LA5 next to the psychology building instead of behind it. I also completely missed the rest of the LA buildings, mostly because I forgot about them. I also missed the faculty office buildings and the CLA building. I did remember the multimedia center but I forgot the name to it. I also forgot the academic success building but for me at least, that building is pretty much part of the library, so I never considered it as separate to begin with. I pretty much forgot the entirety of the lower campus. I really only know where the USU, kinesiology, and health science buildings are. I even completely forgot we have a sports field. Most of my classes are in hall of science or molecular cell building so I rarely ever go anywhere else. I think this pretty much tells me that I spend my walks around campus glued to my phone instead
